Hojicha is a roasted green tea. Low in caffeine, but high in toastiness! Great hot or cold + goes well with milk.
Caffeine: Low
Origin: Japan
Tasting Notes: Dry and nutty.
Pairing Notes: Grilled fish, pork, biscuits
Fun Fact: Originated by stingy Japanese tea merchants who wanted to make use of the fannings and twigs of their teas.
How to Brew: Place 1.5 teaspoons of hojicha in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon of hot water, heated to 170 degrees fahrenheit. Whisk vigorously to make a paste. It should have the consistency of peanut butter with no clumps. Then add 2.5 tablespoons more of hot water to the hojicha and whisk vigorously, until any remaining clumps disappear.
AKA: Hojicha, Houjicha
Each tin contains 30 grams of hojicha - approximately 15-20 servings. Tin sealed for freshness.
